Kasper Salto

Kasper Salto is the designer behind the KATO sofa and chair. He was born on 14 February 1967 in Copenhagen. He graduated as a cabinetmaker in 1988, receiving a silver medal for his test piece. In 1994, he graduated from the Danish Design School. While a student, he spent one semester abroad at the Art Center College of Design in Switzerland.

In 1996 he taught at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

Between 1994 and 1998, Kasper Salto worked for the famous Danish furniture designer Rud Thygesen.

In 1998, he established his own studio in Christianshavn, Copenhagen, where he also lives. In 2006, he moved his office to Sankt Peders Stræde 22, situated in the middle of Copenhagen and not far from Engelbrechts' headquarter on Skindergade 38.

Kasper Salto mainly works for the companies Fritz Hansen, Lightyears and Engelbrechts.

Salto has received a number of design awards for his work, including the 2002 Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Award, the 2003 Furniture Prize, Engelhardts 2005 Mindelegat and most recently the 2010 Finn Juhl Architecture Award.
