The Kevi chair is 50 years old – 2.5 million sold

Many people have sat in the chair that turns 50 in the autumn of 2008. Its name is Kevi and it was designed in 1958 by the Danish twin brothers and architects Ib and Jørgen Rasmussen. Since then, 2.5 million chairs have been produced and today, many homes and offices have a new or older Kevi chair.

In the chair's lifetime, Kevi has received several design awards, e.g. for the Kevi wheel, which Jørgen Rasmussen designed for the chair in 1965. In fact it was the Kevi chair that finally gave the world the ideal solution for sitting comfortably while at the same time being able to easily move the chair in all directions.

The furniture manufacturer Engelbrechts is celebrating the anniversary by launching a new anniversary line (2050), and within this line we are launching a special '50-year anniversary model', of which only 250 copies are being produced.

Each chair comes with a certificate and is personally signed by Jørgen Rasmussen (on the bottom).

The anniversary model's unique feature is its highly finished frame and finished aluminium caps for the Kevi wheel, as well as a lightly upholstered seat and backrest covered with the finest black full-grain leather with edge stitching. The chair is available at selected dealers.
